Kyoto Aquarium 京都水族館

The giant salamanders grow to a metre and a half, and you cannot see them anywhere else in the city.

A city aquarium opened inside Umekōji Park, a short walk from the railway museum. The Japanese giant salamander it displays is a national Special Natural Monument, meaning it has the highest protection Japan gives to a species.
