Forty-eight is tradition: the documented waterfalls number five, the largest 30 metres high.

A gorge on the Takigawa river, within Murō-Akame-Aoyama Quasi-National Park since 1970; it is among the Hundred Waterfalls of Japan (1990) and the Hundred Quality Waters of the Heisei era (2008).
