Kōriyama Castle 郡山城跡
Three concentric moats surround the castle, now among about 600 Somei Yoshino cherry trees.
The largest fortification of the early modern period in the whole of Yamato, built in 1580 by Tsutsui Junkei. The core of the castle (the keep, the Bishamon enclosure and the Seal enclosure) is designated a historic site by Nara Prefecture, not by the national government; in 2017 it was added to the list of Japan's ‘continued hundred castles’ (続日本100名城), and in 1990 to the list of the hundred famous cherry blossom spots (さくら名所100選).
