Matsue Castle (松江城) 松江城
Its shachihoko, the largest of any Japanese castle, is almost 2 metres tall.
It was the seat of the Matsue domain for two and a half centuries. The ninomaru, with its garden and reconstructed buildings, is free to enter; there is a fee to visit the tenshu. Major maintenance work (Reiwa Renovation) is planned between 2027 and 2030: if you visit in those years, you would do well to check its status before planning the climb to the tenshu.
