Matsumae Castle 松前城

The last traditional castle built in Japan, in 1855; today's keep dates from 1960.

It was the only castle in Hokkaido and the last of its kind built in Japan in the traditional architectural style. The park is listed among the hundred most celebrated cherry-blossom viewing spots in Japan, with 250 varieties and about 8,000 trees.
