Takise White Coast 滝瀬海岸(シラフラ)
The white cliffs, about 20 metres high and about 500 metres long, formed from layers of volcanic pumice laid down on the seabed about 5 million years ago and later lifted to the surface.
Stretch of coast in the town of Otobe (Hokkaido), known as 滝瀬海岸 or ‘シラフラ’: a white cliff about 20 metres high that runs for about 500 metres along the Sea of Japan, on the western side of the Oshima Peninsula. The white rock is made of layers of volcanic pumice laid down on the seabed about 5 million years ago during an eruption, then lifted to the surface.
