Glover Garden グラバー園
Glover's house (1863) is the oldest Western wooden building in Japan.
Thomas Blake Glover, a Scottish merchant, built his residence in 1863 on Minamiyamate hill, when Nagasaki had only just opened to foreign trade; he was among the first to import Western technologies and to support Meiji modernisation. The house and the structures attached to it have been an Important Cultural Property since 1961 and a component of the UNESCO site on the Meiji industrial revolution since 2015.
