Gojō Shinmachi 五條新町
Founded in 1608, at the wish of a daimyo, around Futami Castle.
Gojō Shinmachi was formed by the union of two settlements: Gojō, a commercial hub already active in medieval times, and Shinmachi, the castle town founded in 1608 by the daimyo Matsukura Shigemasa around Futami Castle. The district, about 7 hectares, has been designated an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings (重要伝統的建造物群保存地区).
