Hakata Machiya Furusato-kan 「博多町家」ふるさと館
It is the only Meiji-period shop-house still standing in Fukuoka that shows the production, sale and daily life of Hakata-ori together, with a main building whose façade is four ken wide.
A Meiji-period shop-house (町家) in the Hakata district of Fukuoka, opposite Kushida Shrine (address: 福岡市博多区冷泉町6-10). Built in the early Meiji years (明治20年代前半, early 1890s) as the home and workshop of a Hakata-ori weaver, it is a Tangible Cultural Property designated by the city of Fukuoka: the façade of the main building is four ken wide, with the shop, the inner corridor and the weaving area in a row. Donated to the city in 1992 by its owner Miura Shingorō, it was moved about 100 metres and rebuilt, reopening as a museum on 10 August 1995. Today the complex comprises three buildings: the historic shop-house (町家棟), an exhibition pavilion (展示棟) and a products pavilion (物産棟).
