Kamo Aquarium 加茂水族館

Close to bankruptcy in 1971, it now displays 70 species of jellyfish: a Guinness record since 2012.

Tsuruoka's municipal aquarium, on the Sea of Japan coast: after passing to third-party management in 1967 and years of decline with insufficient maintenance, it came close to closing in 1971. The turning point came with its specialisation in jellyfish from 1997.
