Manpuku-ji 黄檗山萬福寺

Founded in 1661 by a Chinese monk: it follows Ming models, not Japanese ones.

Head temple of the Ōbaku school, the third branch of Japanese Zen alongside Rinzai and Sōtō, founded in 1661 by the Chinese master Ingen Ryūki. Three buildings (Tennōden, Daiyūhōden and Hattō) are National Treasures, and more than twenty other structures in the grounds are Important Cultural Properties. With Ingen, his monastery cuisine also came to Japan.
