Meganebashi (Megane Bridge) 眼鏡橋
Built in 1634 by a Chinese monk: in 1982 a flood swept half of it away.
An Important Cultural Property since 1960. At 22 metres long, 3.65 wide and 5.46 high above the water, it is the oldest double-arched bridge in Japan. Already damaged by a flood in 1648, it took its worst blow in the great Nagasaki flood of 1982, which swept away about half of it: it was rebuilt with the original stones recovered from the river.
