Miyagawa Asaichi (宮川朝市) 宮川朝市
One of the three great morning markets of Japan: 700 m of stalls along the river.
The origins of Takayama's morning market go back to a silkworm market of the early nineteenth century at the Takayama Betsuin; after silkworm farming declined, a vegetable market was started in 1894. The current riverside site came later, and the dates given vary between 1953 and 1962. ⚠️ It should not be confused with the Jinya Morning Market (陣屋前朝市): they are two separate markets, in different parts of Takayama.
