Miyoshi Mononoke Museum 湯本豪一記念日本妖怪博物館(三次もののけミュージアム)
5,000 items donated by a collector, where a boy held out through 30 nights of yōkai.
Museum devoted to yōkai folklore, in the city of Miyoshi, which is linked to the legend of the Inō Mononoke-roku. Opened on 26 April 2019, it is the first museum in Japan devoted entirely to yōkai. The collection was donated by the folklorist Yumoto Kōichi, one of the most important collectors of the genre in Japan. The museum stands in Miyoshi because this is where the Inō Mononoke-roku is set, the tale in which the young Inō Heitarō (later a samurai of the Hiroshima domain, who lived 1734–1803) faced thirty nights of supernatural phenomena in the eighteenth century: a story that has spread ever since in illustrated books, painted scrolls and manga, down to the present day.
