Japan's first public museum of contemporary art, opened in 1989 by Kurokawa Kishō.

Contemporary art museum on the park hill of Hijiyama, a traditional hanami spot for Hiroshima residents. Opened on 3 May 1989, it was the first public museum in Japan devoted entirely to contemporary art.
