Hiroshima Museum of Art (ひろしま美術館) ひろしま美術館
Hiroshima Bank opens it in 1978 for its centenary: inside, Van Gogh's garden.
The museum opens on 3 November 1978, a commemorative project of Hiroshima Bank for its own centenary: the rebuilt city needed, the official site says, ‘a place of spiritual joy and tranquillity’, and that is still the theme it carries, ‘For love and tranquillity’ (愛とやすらぎのために). The permanent collection runs through Romanticism, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Fauvism, Picasso and the School of Paris, down to modern Japanese painting in the Western style and traditional Japanese painting.
