Naritasan Shinshōji 成田山新勝寺

The grounds are open 24 hours: the fire ritual for Fudō has been performed every day since 940.

Naritasan Shinshōji, founded in 940 by the monk Kanchō, is the head temple of the Chizan school of Shingon Buddhism. It is one of the most visited pilgrimage destinations in Japan: at New Year alone there are millions of visits.
