那須どうぶつ王国 opened in 1998 as a mixed-capital venture in the Nasu area, on about 43 hectares, with the stated aim of introducing species less well known than the classic zoo stars. The Pallas's cat, red pandas, otters and penguins are among the species it has made popular; the park is divided into an indoor town zone and a seasonal outdoor farm zone, with daily bird and sheepdog shows and one of the largest dog runs in the Kanto.
