Natadera 那谷寺

Wedged into caves of eroded rock, the prayer hall has earned 1 Michelin star.

Tradition has it that it was founded in 717 by the monk Taichō, a figure also linked to the first recorded ascent of Mount Hakusan; the present temple, rebuilt in the seventeenth century by the lord of Kaga, Maeda Toshitsune, belongs to the Shingon school and keeps the original layout linked to the shugendō cult of the mountain.
