In 1989 the first insectarium in western Japan, in a 378-hectare park (free).

Hiroshima Forest Park opened in November 1989 on 378 hectares of hillside, in Fukuda-chō, Higashi-ku. Inside it is the first insectarium in western Japan, today the only facility in the Chūgoku-Shikoku region devoted entirely to insects, with a dome where butterflies fly freely and rooms for observing live insects.
