Bandai Bridge (萬代橋) 萬代橋

Six reinforced-concrete arches from 1929: they withstood the Niigata earthquake of 1964.

The bridge links the two banks of central Niigata on National Route 7, and is in its third incarnation: the first, made of wood, dates from 1886. The present one, completed in June 1929, is a six-arch reinforced-concrete bridge with granite facing; it survived the Niigata earthquake of 16 June 1964. In July 2004 it was designated a national Important Cultural Property (重要文化財).
