Kasama Inari Shrine (笠間稲荷神社) 笠間稲荷神社

In the third episode of the seventh Ψ, ‘うるΨお正月’, Kusuo is taken to hatsumōde by his parents and finds himself running into, one after another, everyone he would rather have avoided. It is the only shrine the series draws with care, and that very care made people suspect it had a model: whoever recognised it says they spent a long time searching among Tokyo's shrines before discovering it was in Ibaraki.

One of the three great Inari shrines of Japan, founded according to tradition in 651. The red two-storey rōmon, the chōzuya, the stone foxes, the sacred horse under the rōmon and the 仲見世 shopping street leading to the grounds are all recognisable. It is the most visited shrine in Ibaraki at New Year: over 800,000 people in the first three days of the year.
