Ōarai Isosaki Shrine and the Kamiiso torii 大洗磯前神社・神磯の鳥居

At the winter solstice the sun rises framed by the torii on the rocks of Kamiiso.

Shinto shrine on the Ōarai coast: tradition holds that the deity came down in the distant past right onto the rocks of Kamiiso, facing the sea. The torii that marks that spot has become the symbol of the whole town, as well as of the shrine.
