Shirafura Cliff — Takise Coast (滝瀬海岸シラフラ) 滝瀬海岸(シラフラ)

White pumice cliff: 20 m by 500 m, lifted from the sea 5 million years ago.

The Takise coast, in the town of Otobe (about 80 km from Hakodate), is known locally as Shirafura for its white rock face, about 20 metres high, which runs for about 500 metres along the sea. The white layers formed about 5 million years ago from volcanic deposits, shells and diatoms on the seabed, then were lifted by movements of the Earth's crust. A rest centre at the scenic park opened on 3 October 2024, with a free area and two public toilets.
