Sugimoto-dera (杉本寺) 杉本寺

The oldest temple in Kamakura, from 734; the moss staircase, however, is closed.

Founded in year 6 of the Tenpyō era, that is in 734, it is the oldest temple in Kamakura: Hase-dera, the second oldest, dates from 736. It is the first of the thirty-three stops on the Bandō pilgrimage dedicated to Kannon, the circuit that crosses the whole of the Kantō.
