Taikodani Inari Jinja (太皷谷稲成神社) 太皷谷稲成神社

A thousand vermilion torii over 263 steps: the only shrine in Japan written 稲成 instead of 稲荷.

Shrine dedicated to Inari, founded in 1773 as protection against the unlucky quarter (鬼門) of Tsuwano Castle, then called Sanbonmatsu. The path of torii, the view over the town below and the unusual character of its name make it one of the most photographed destinations in south-western Shimane.
