Kanmon Pedestrian Tunnel 関門トンネル人道
780 m long, 58 m deep beneath the strait: you walk across it in 10–15 minutes.
Opened in 1958, the pedestrian tunnel runs under the Kanmon Strait, the short stretch of sea that separates the islands of Kyushu and Honshu. It is the only place in Japan where an undersea prefectural border can be crossed entirely on foot, linking Moji, in the municipality of Kitakyushu (Fukuoka), with Shimonoseki, in Yamaguchi.
