Ura-Namba (ウラなんば) ウラなんば
Born in 2010 with a handful of independent venues: today it has about a hundred.
The name and identity of the area were born in 2010, when the owners of the independent venues in the area (then a former warehouse neighbourhood near the street of tools, Dōgu-suji) decided to promote it together, to the point of being able to tell a taxi driver ‘Ura-Namba, please’. From a handful of venues at the start, the area has grown to about a hundred of them, turning from a place seen as shady into one of the most popular nightlife neighbourhoods in Osaka.
