Maisaka Waki-honjin 舞坂宿脇本陣

An 1838 inn for daimyō: the only waki-honjin left on the old Tōkaidō.

Along the Tōkaidō, the road that linked Edo to Kyoto in the Edo period, every post station had a honjin (the inn reserved for travelling daimyō) and a reserve waki-honjin for when the honjin was already occupied. Maisaka's, the Myōgaya, built in 1838, is the only waki-honjin to have survived along the entire historic route of the Tōkaidō. The municipality of Hamamatsu designated it a tangible cultural property on 17 May 1997.
