Lifeguards are on duty only from mid-April to the end of November: outside that period, you swim without a net.
Eight hundred metres of white sand enclosed in a shallow, calm bay, with the coral reef a few metres from the shore: you get there by ferry from Naha and spend the whole day, snorkelling among the clownfish and taking kayak trips to the islet of Hanari. The municipal regulations require a life jacket for anyone snorkelling in the supervised area.
The main beach on Tokashiki Island, in the Kerama archipelago (part of Kerama Shoto National Park), about 40 minutes by high-speed ferry or 70 by regular ferry from Tomari port in Naha. It is the best-equipped and most tourist-oriented beach on the island, a base for snorkelling and diving in the sea known as ‘Kerama Blue’.
ℹ️ ⚠️ The municipality sets an official lifeguard period from the ‘sea opening’ (mid-April) to the end of November, 9:00–18:00 (source: official regulations of Tokashiki village, opened); outside this period there is no supervision. Life jacket compulsory for snorkelling in the supervised area; stepping on the coral and chasing the turtles are prohibited. Access: Marine Liner Tokashiki high-speed ferry (~35–40 min, adults ¥2,530, return ¥4,810) or Ferry Tokashiki (~70 min, adults ¥1,690, return ¥3,210) from Tomari, Naha; then local bus to Aharen (~15 min, ¥400 one way). ⚠️ Fares valid until 30/09/2026: the municipality states on its own website that there will be an increase from 1 October 2026, without yet giving the new amount (post-cutoff, verified on the official page).
