Air Park — Hamamatsu Air Force Museum

航空自衛隊浜松広報館エアーパーク

Open on the mapwith over 1,800 wonders of Japan

The last of the 5,195 F-4 Phantoms ever built in the world (No. 440) is here. Free entry.

The information centre of Hamamatsu Air Base displays fighters and trainers actually used by the Air Self-Defense Force in a hangar. The highlight is F-4EJ Kai serial number 440, nicknamed ‘Shishimaru’: the last F-4 Phantom ever assembled in the world, out of a total of 5,195 built. It arrived on 2 December 2020 and has been on display indoors since March 2021 (the only one of the Phantoms on show in Japan kept under cover).

Next to Hamamatsu Air Base, the main training school of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, the museum displays aircraft in hangars and offers a Blue Impulse (aerobatic team) simulator and virtual reality screenings. F-4EJ Kai 440, which belonged to the 301st Squadron, came here after Japan's Phantoms were retired from service.

ℹ️ Open 9:00–16:00. Closed on Mondays, on Tuesdays when Monday is a public holiday, on the last Tuesday of each month, over the year-end and New Year period, and from Tuesday to Thursday of the second week of March. Unscheduled closures are possible. Free entry. Free car park for 146 cars and 17 buses. Telephone: 053-472-1121.
