A French-style villa from 1922 that cost 300,000 yen: the imperial family used to visit it.

Built in 1922 as a private residence by Count Hisamatsu Sadakoto, a descendant of the last lord of the Matsuyama domain, who had lived in France for many years as an officer in the Imperial Army. Mansard roof, continuous arcaded balconies, interior decoration by artists of the time (the carver Aihara Unraku, the painter Yagi Saika, the glassmaker Kiuchi Shintarō): it cost about 300,000 yen, an enormous sum for the time. It became Matsuyama's main social salon, and according to local tradition the imperial family visited it whenever it passed through the prefecture.

A cultural property of Ehime Prefecture since 1985, and a national Important Cultural Property (main building and caretaker's lodge) since 29 November 2011. It has also been a film set.

ℹ️ 9:00–18:00, closed on Mondays. Admission: adults 400 yen, children 200 (prices from April 2025). A leisurely visit takes about half an hour.
