67.4 metres, the only waterfall in Gifu with a national 名勝 designation, obtained in 2024.
From the Seseragi Park car park a path of about five minutes through the forest of Hakusan National Park leads to a platform about 250 metres from the waterfall: from there the water, turned milky white by the columnar-jointed andesite it flows over, drops 67.4 metres in a single fall. It is the first and so far only waterfall in Gifu Prefecture designated a national 名勝 (Place of Scenic Beauty), since 21 February 2024, and local tradition holds it to be the origin of the very name of the village of Shirakawa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Waterfall on the Ōshiromizu-gawa, a tributary of the Shōgawa, in the valley of the same name in the village of Shirakawa, Ōno District, at an altitude of about 1,200 metres within Hakusan National Park. It was already a scenic property of Gifu Prefecture before the 2024 national designation.
ℹ️ Accessible from early June to late October: Prefectural Road 451, which leads there, closes in winter because of snow. From the Seseragi Park car park, about 30 minutes by car from National Route 156, a path of about 5 minutes leads to the viewing platform. No entrance ticket.
