26 stalls 5 minutes from the station: the largest yatai village north of Tōhoku.
Five minutes’ walk from Hakodate Station, twenty-six small venues side by side (sushi, crab, tempura, yakitori, kushikatsu, Korean food and Genghis Khan) line a block designed for hashigo-zake, going from bar to bar and drinking a little in each. It is the largest yatai village north of Tōhoku.
The Daimon area (literally ‘great gate’, from the gate that marked its entrance) was Hakodate's red-light district after 1907, then declined with the fall in deep-sea fishing and competition from large shops on the outskirts. The ‘Hikari no Yatai’ yatai village opened on that site in October 2005, and celebrated its twentieth anniversary in October 2025.
ℹ️ General hours 11:00–1:00, but each venue has its own hours and closing days. Recurring event ‘Daimon Baru’: an evening of hashigo-zake with drinks and dishes at 700 yen each. Tel. 0138-24-0033.
