It closes three days out of seven (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday), inside an old teahouse.
Terracotta dolls, costumed dolls, Takeda ningyō and Ichimatsu ningyō sit side by side in the display cases of a former teahouse, alongside Russian matryoshkas that show how the same gesture (dressing a childhood figure) changes from one country to another. The visit, guided in English as well, lasts about 40 minutes.
The museum occupies a historic building in the Nishi Chaya district, one of Kanazawa's three teahouse districts, converted into an exhibition space to house traditional Japanese dolls together with international examples.
