A stroll garden around a pond, built in 1677 at the wish of Ii Naooki, fourth lord of the Hikone domain, drawing on the composition of the Chinese Eight Views of Xiao-Xiang and of the Eight Views of Ōmi. Four islets dot the water, linked by bridges that differ from one another. Every November the garden stays open in the evening for the autumn illumination, with the castle's tenshu reflected in the water.
