Conder's English villa at the top of the slope, a Kyoto garden below. 150 yen.
The drop of the Musashino plateau is the design: above, the Western villa and the European-style garden by Josiah Conder; below, the Japanese garden by Ogawa Jihei, the Kyoto gardener known as Niwashi-Ueji. You walk down from one to the other and the country changes.
First the residence of Mutsu Munemitsu, then of the Furukawa family. Thirty thousand square metres, a typical example of Taishō-period gardens. Opened on 30 April 1956.
ℹ️ Open 9:00–17:00, last entry 16:30. Closed from 29 December to 1 January. Entry 150 yen, 70 for over-65s.
