At 737 metres, more than twice the height of Mount Hakodate, one of the great night views of Chūgoku.

At 737 metres, more than twice Mount Hakodate's 334 (one of the ‘three great night views of Japan’), the Haigamine viewpoint looks down on the city and naval port of Kure, one of the ‘three great night views of Chūgoku-Shikoku’. The observation area stands on the stone foundations of an old anti-aircraft battery of the Imperial Navy; at the summit there are today also a 6.7-metre white dome housing the weather radar of the Hiroshima observatory and a telecommunications mast. A local legend says that couples who manage to read ‘くれ’ (Kure) in the pattern of the city lights are destined to stay together.

A mountain behind Kure, with a daytime view over the Seto Inland Sea and a night view of the city.

ℹ️ Always accessible and free. Paved road to the summit (about 30 minutes by car from Kure), free car parks (about ten spaces in total, in several spots). By public transport: bus from Kure to the Kamiyama-tōge bus stop, then on foot (about 90 minutes).

🚉 Sozuke · 27 min walk
