Formed in 1888 by the volcano's landslide: the largest barrier lake in Japan.
The 1888 eruption of Mount Bandai made the side of the mountain collapse in a debris avalanche that dammed several watercourses: Lake Hibara, the largest of the lakes formed that day, is today the largest volcanic barrier lake in Japan. Two boats, the Bandai-maru (200 seats) and the Azuma-maru (150 seats), run the lake cruise every 30 minutes from late April to early November.
An artificial lake formed by the 1888 eruption of Mount Bandai, in the municipality of Kitashiobara, one of the main lakes of the Ura-Bandai area together with the Goshiki-numa group.
ℹ️ The shore is always accessible. Boat cruises late April–early November, every 30 minutes. Seasonal water sports and lakeside cycle path.
