At 500 metres above sea level, the largest Jersey cow farming area in Japan.

The plateau lies between 500 and 600 metres above sea level at the foot of the three peaks of Hiruzen (Lower, Middle and Upper Hiruzen, each over 1,000 metres), with herds of Jersey cows grazing against the outline of the mountains. A cycle path of about 30 km and hiking trails cross the plateau through open meadows and woods, with horses for hire at some rest stops.

The area, within Daisen-Oki National Park, is Japan's main farming area for Jersey cattle: milk and its products (ice cream, cheese) are what the plateau is known for, beyond the landscape itself.

ℹ️ The plateau can be visited at any time, with no ticket. The Hiruzen Kōgen Center visitor centre and the places to eat have their own opening hours, generally daytime. The GREENable Hiruzen tourist centre provides maps of the trails and the cycle path.
