The only beach on Taketomi where you can swim: at low tide the water comes up to your ankles.
On the west side of Taketomi, an arc of very white sand slopes gently into clear, cobalt-coloured water: it is the only beach on the island where the municipality indicates that swimming is safe, because of the shallow, even seabed. At low tide a sandbar often appears above the water, and the beach is also the place on the island indicated for watching the sunset.
A beach on the western side of Taketomi Island, in the Yaeyama archipelago, reachable from the village in about ten minutes by bicycle or five to ten by shuttle bus from the port. It is the main (and, for the local tourism body, the only) beach on the island where you can swim, and it has facilities.
ℹ️ Free entry, always accessible. Toilets and showers available; in summer seasonal kiosks (parlour) open. From Taketomi port: about 2.2 km, reachable by hire bike (~10–15 min), on foot (~40 min) or by local bus (5–10 min). No lifeguard hours stated on the official page consulted.
