Almost all the reviews talk about the same thing, and it is not the view.
The cliff drops ten to thirty metres, and below it the Pacific and the East China Sea meet. It is a beautiful, quiet place, with a car park, panels, a shelter and the lighthouse. But on the edge there is a peace tower, and everyone who writes about having been there always comes back to it: in June 1945, driven south by the American advance, civilians and soldiers threw themselves into the sea from these cliffs.
A headland at the southern tip of Okinawa Island, in the municipality of Itoman. The 1945 battle ended on this point, where the Japanese army and the civilian population had been pushed. The peace memorial tower stands on the cape.
ℹ️ Always open and free, with a car park and toilets. ⚠️ You need a car: the approach roads are narrow farm roads and signage is sparse. Some structures are old or fenced off.
