Reopened in 2026 after 5 years of restoration: the only Japanese-style station that is a cultural property.
Terminus of the Taisha Line, opened in 1912 and rebuilt in 1924 as a monumental entrance for the pilgrimage to Izumo Taisha: a roof of black tiles and auspicious decorations, in which the architect Itō Chūta is said to have had a hand. Decommissioned when the line closed in 1990, it is one of only three railway stations designated an Important Cultural Property in Japan (2004) and the only one in fully Japanese style. A conservation restoration, begun in February 2021, was completed on 20 December 2025, and the station reopened to the public on 15 April 2026.
Former terminus of the JR Taisha Line, in the municipality of Izumo, opened in 1912 and closed to traffic in 1990. Now a free railway museum.
