At 531 metres up, the bell rewards couples: since 2015 among the NEW three views of Japan.

From the 531-metre summit (about 200 more than Mount Hakodate) you can see Sapporo through 360 degrees, as far as the plain and Ishikari Bay. The observation deck, which is barrier-free, houses the panoramic restaurant The Jewels and, on the roof, the ‘bell of happiness’: legend has it that couples who hang a padlock with their names on it there will never split up. Sapporo has been in the ranking of the ‘new three great night views of Japan’ (日本新三大夜景) since it was established in 2015, and was confirmed in 2018 – a different, more recent ranking than the ‘classic’ one that includes Hakodate.

Mount Moiwa, 531 metres, is Sapporo's main viewpoint. The summit is certified as a ‘Lover's Sanctuary Satellite’, a romantic place for marriage proposals. You reach it by ropeway to the halfway point and by funicular (mini cable car) for the last stretch up to the observation deck.

ℹ️ Summer (April–November): ropeway 10:30–22:00 (last ride up 21:30), funicular 10:30–21:50 (last ride up 21:40). Winter (December–March): ropeway 11:00–22:00, funicular 11:10–21:50. Combined ropeway+funicular ticket: adults 2,100 yen, up to elementary school age 1,050 yen.
