At 929 metres a wolf is worshipped, and you can bring your dog here to have it blessed.

The shrine stands at the top of Mount Mitake, at 「標高929m」, and the deity worshipped there is Ōkuchi-Magami, the Japanese wolf god, whom people call 「おいぬ様」, ‘Mr Dog’. From this comes what sets it apart from every other shrine: there is a blessing specifically for the dog you bring with you.

Its founding is attributed to the reign of Emperor Sujin. The Japanese wolf, extinct since the twentieth century, has remained a god here.

ℹ️ You go up Mount Mitake and then walk to the shrine. ⚠️ The official site does NOT mention the funicular, which does exist: the operating hours of the mountain transport have to be checked separately, and they decide the last ride down. Ōme, outside the 23 wards.

🚉 Mount Mitake · 14 min walk
