The only National Treasure in Okinawa, and the crown has been on view for two weeks in all.
The museum holds the possessions of the Shō royal family: eighty-five craft pieces plus the documents of the kingdom, designated a National Treasure in 2006 (the first and only ones in the prefecture). Among those pieces is the king's crown. It is not on permanent display: records show it was on public view for just two weeks, in November 2019.
A museum of the municipality of Naha dedicated to the history of the city and to the heritage of the Shō royal house. For years it was housed on the fourth floor of the Palette Kumoji building, on Kokusai-dōri. The new premises are under construction in the Nakagusuku Udun area, in Shuri, inside the castle park: the prefecture is putting up the building, and management remains with the municipality.
ℹ️ ⚠️ It cannot be visited at present: the Palette Kumoji premises closed on 31 August 2025 and the reopening is announced for November 2026 or later, with no date set. Information from the municipality's museum group, 098-869-5266.
