The only museum in Japan devoted to the pear: a 74-year-old tree marks its entrance.
Inside Kurayoshi Park Square, the museum tells the story of the Twentieth Century nashi pear, the variety that is a symbol of Tottori, with a theatre, a cultivation simulator and a ‘mysterious garden’ that imitates a pear orchard. At the entrance grows a 74-year-old tree with a crown 20 metres wide; one room lets you taste and compare three different varieties.
Official name Tottori Twentieth Century Nashi Pear Memorial Museum, in Kurayoshi: presented as the only museum in Japan entirely devoted to a single fruit.
ℹ️ Open 9:00–17:00 (last entry 16:40); closed on the first, third and fifth Monday of the month and from 29 December to 3 January. Reachable by bus from JR Kurayoshi.
