25 traditional houses, all of them cultural properties, moved here from all over Japan.
In the greenery of Ikuta Park, twenty-five traditional buildings were dismantled in their home villages and rebuilt here: thatched-roof houses in the gasshō style of the snowy regions, a boatmen's house, water mills, even a stage for village kabuki theatre. All twenty-five are designated cultural properties: seven by the State as Important Cultural Properties, one as a tangible folk cultural property, ten by the prefecture, seven by the municipality.
Opened in 1967 by the City of Kawasaki to save the rapidly disappearing Japanese rural architecture from abandonment; it is an open-air museum in the Ikuta green park.
ℹ️ Open 9:30–17:00 (9:30–16:30 from November to February), closed on Mondays (open if a public holiday, closed the following day) and over the year-end period. Tickets 550 yen adults, 330 yen high school/university students and over-65s, free for junior high and younger.
