The largest nightlife district in the whole Chūbu-Tōkai region, reborn after 1945.

The district covers the area between Hisaya-ōdōri, Honmachi-dōri, Hirokōji-dōri and Sakura-dōri, and today it is the largest district of high-end restaurants and venues (clubs, lounges, ryōtei) in the whole Chūbu-Tōkai region. The area was almost entirely razed by the bombing of 1945; the post-war reconstruction, with the reorganisation of the blocks and the arrival of the Higashiyama metro line, revived its role as an evening district.

The administrative name Nishiki San-chōme dates from the 1966 reorganisation of addresses, but the area had already been a district for evening trade since the early twentieth century, itself heir to a similar role as far back as the Edo period, when the castle town grew up here after the population was moved from Kiyosu.

ℹ️ A public street, open at all times; the individual venues open mostly from the evening onwards, many by booking or when accompanied.
