About 1,200 venues in a few streets: it is the largest nightlife district in the prefecture.
Ninjō Yokochō is a narrow alley under a row of lanterns, inside Nishitachi, the name used in Miyazaki for the group of five streets (Nishi-Tachibana-dōri, Chūō-dōri, Ebisu-dōri, Takamatsu-dōri, Nishi-Ginza-dōri) that form the city's most extensive nightlife district, with about 1,200 izakaya, bars, grilled-meat restaurants and Italian restaurants between them. In the alley, small home-cooking places, yakitori, sushi bars and eateries of every kind stand side by side, made for a round of several stops (hashigo-zake, ‘drinking by hopping from ladder to ladder’).
The district is in the heart of Miyazaki city, about 13 minutes on foot from the JR station. The name ‘Nishitachi’ is the popular contraction of Nishi-Tachibana-dōri, the main street of the area; the Ninjō Yokochō alley is its most intimate heart, with its crowded signs and the lanterns that give it the atmosphere behind the name ‘alley of human warmth’ (人情, ninjō). It is a district that comes alive above all in the evening, when workers leave their offices and the venues open one after another all through the night.
ℹ️ Public alley and streets, always accessible: during the day the shutters are almost all down and there is not much to see; the area is worth it in the evening. Most venues open from late afternoon and close late at night, each with its own hours.
